NJ State Library Trustee Institute
Our Trustees know the value of New Jersey libraries and have embarked on the mission to ensure that libraries will continue to be able to provide essential services to our residents. Attending The New Jersey Library Trustee Institute provides many of the tools that will help them to achieve their goals. And like New Jersey's libraries, our Library Trustees just keep getting better and better.
Save the Date! The next Trustee Institute will be held on September 13, 2014, at the Sheraton Eatontown.
The New Jersey State Library, and its partners New Jersey Library Trustee Association (NJLTA) and New Jersey Library Association (NJLA), are committed to providing the highest quality of trustee education available. The Trustee Institute, held every two years, is part of our goal to train trustees to be knowledgeable about their responsibilities and to help them understand core competencies to improve their skills as trustees and therefore better advocate for their library. The last Trustee Institute held June 2, 2012, was attended by over 200 library trustees.
Free Trustee Academy Webinar Series by ALA's United for Libraries
Free Online Trustee Training for Continuing Education
The New Jersey State Library will once again be offering FREE online trustee training through the Trustee Academy. The Trustee Academy features a series of free online webinars for trustees developed by United for Libraries, the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends, and Foundations, a division of the American Library Association. Last year, 193 New Jersey library trustees completed a total of 320 online classes over the year. New Jersey had the highest participation of any state that licensed the webinars through United for Libraries. Topics include: Trustees Basics I & II; Working Effectively with the Library Director; the Library’s Budget; Advocating for Your Library; Evaluating the Library Director; and two specific classes for New Jersey trustees on Per Capita State Aid and New Jersey Library Law.
